It's A Man Alone for me, love that album, the spoken word interludes, late night companion, it's kin to Tim Hardin's Suite For Susan Moore, both albums are regularly played in my own personal ergosphere.
I used to facetiously say I was more a Buddy Greco man, but time has disabused me of that frivolous idea. Frank grows with the years.
Thanks Martin. I love A Man Alone as well. And I do enjoy a bit of Buddy Greco every now and then.
I've heard that point about Frank growing more important with the years from a couple of people recently, and it's true for me too. Music that you thought was so familiar takes on new layers, forms new wrinkles.
This is up there with my favourite Sinatra songs. I love how, on the version on "Only the Lonely" he finishes with the repeated 'long long long'. Here's another clip of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m121tmJzcAc
I grew up with my mom's Sinatra albums. I remember being mesmerized by Songs for Swingin' Lovers and September of My Years. Looking forward to a piece on that one.
Great piece - looking forward to your take on 'September of My Years,' one of my favourite Sinatra recordings and one which I wrote about a few years ago.

A nice piece Richard.

I love Sinatra’s late night, melancholy albums. “No One Cares” is my favorite but they’re all wonderful.
Thank you for the comment. "No One Cares" is indeed a classic.
Here's one of my favorite songs from that era. I've watched this clip countless times. https://youtu.be/3jHr5JbTeRY?si=RpuKE5a_uPsw15jT

Thanks Ellen. Both wonderful albums.

Thank you. Is your 'September' piece on Substack? I'd like to read it.
It is. Here is the link: https://www.listeningsessions.ca/p/frank-sinatra-at-50
Great, I look forward to reading it.
Thank you, Linda, I really appreciate that. I agree about I Get Along: such a haunting track.
